The summer of 1995 generally passed by in a blue-and-white tinted haze for Rovers fans still celebrating the Premier League title from the season just passed. Not even a lack of transfer activity and news that Kenny Dalglish was stepping away from the manager role could dampen spirits. Roberto Baggio, Marc Overmars, Gabriel Batistuta and Matt Le Tissier swirled around the rumour mill. In the end, only Matty Holmes arrived from West Ham via an exchange deal with Robbie Slater. The reluctance to improve from a position of strength proved costly as Rovers struggled until the mid-season arrivals of Lars Bohinen, Garry Flitcroft, Chris Coleman, Billy McKinlay and Graham Fenton. A late-rally almost resulted in European qualification as Rovers finished a respectable 7th.
